01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Iseya Honten, a thick sushi roll or rice dish can make a meal, with mame daifuku or dango for something sweet afterwards. One diner found the sushi roll mild and easy to eat, with a flavour that brought back memories of meals at home as a child; another mentioned that the egg in that day's roll contained eel. For a lighter lunch, there are also rice balls, inari sushi and okowa, a sticky steamed rice dish. One reviewer said the mountain-vegetable okowa was pleasantly chewy rather than watery. The small inari sushi, they added, had a sweet-and-savoury flavour that still let the taste of the fried tofu come through.
Among the sweets, several diners praised the mame daifuku for its generous beans and well-balanced sweetness. Dango, suama and seasonal Japanese sweets are also available; one person said they bought a single skewer of dango, making it easy to have just a little something sweet after lunch. The shop is used mainly for takeaway, and accepts cash only.
